I know it’s not anything new, but I’ve become fascinated with ‘datamoshing,’ or compression artifacts. It’s hit the mainstream in a big way, with videos Kanye and Chairlift splashed all over the internet. For how cool the end result is, the process itself is very simple and a lot of fun.  Below are links to three short tutorials. The Mac datamoshing pack is available through the tutorial videos on youtube. AVS video converter is a decent program for those of us confined to Windows- there’s plenty of cracked versions available in torrents.
