Here’s a little tribute to one of my all time favorite bands Joy Division, who’s singer Ian Curtis took his own life 29 years ago today. Their compilation album ‘Substance’ was one of the first ‘cool’ cds I ever bought when my collection was very small and very unexplored (and very mallternative sad to say). I knew once I heard that album that I needed to know more and pretty much opened me to a lot of the stuff that appeals to me about music ever since, especially when cold styles clash with dance rhythms and punk energy meets electronic desolation, which New Order explored in Joy Division’s aftermath.
